Get Rid of Unwanted Fine Veins with Laser Treatment
Are you frustrated by visible blood vessels on your face or legs? No matter their size or location, spider veins can appear at any age and can cause embarrassment or impact one’s self-esteem. Thankfully, spider vein treatment can reduce and eliminate the appearance of these unsightly blood vessels for good!
What are Spider Veins?
Spider veins are typically small blood vessels that appear on the legs and face. They vary in size and colour from small and red to larger blue or purple veins. Contrary to popular belief, they’re not broken veins. Spider veins are simply dilated or stretched non-essential veins. Because they’re non-essential, they can be safely treated with effective spider vein treatments.
While they can appear at any age, they’re most commonly reported by women between the ages of 30 and 60. Their exact cause is unknown, but it’s believed hormonal changes, a lack of physical activity, weight gain, and genetics all play a role.
Treatment Options
There are two primary treatment options for the removal of spider veins, laser vein removal and sclerotherapy. Each treatment focuses on breaking down targeted veins so they can be reabsorbed into the body, with a few key differences:
Laser Vein Removal
Laser vein removal focuses a small laser at targeted veins, bypassing the epidermis. The blood in these veins coagulates as it absorbs the light. The veins break down and can then be re-absorbed harmlessly into the body. Laser treatment for spider veins is extremely accurate, and one treatment is the equivalent of 6 to 8 sclerotherapy needle treatments.
At PearlMedicaMD, we use the CoolGlide ND:Yag laser, which delivers precise treatment while maximizing patient comfort. In most cases, patients are able to return to normal activity immediately after treatment.
Sclerotherapy
This spider vein treatment consists of multiple needle injections of sclerosing solution (typically saline-based) into spider veins. The veins then become inflamed, which causes the vein cavity to collapse. It can then be reabsorbed into the body. This treatment takes longer, targets a smaller area, and is frequently painful.
Because of the results available through laser vein removal and the huge improvement in patient comfort it offers, we’re pleased to offer our patients laser vein removal. It’s much more comfortable than sclerotherapy, not to mention faster, more effective, and provides lasting results.
