How Botox® Works

Botox® injections use the neuromodulator botulinum toxin type A to relax the muscles that cause wrinkles. Targeted injections can help restore the youthful look of the face and eliminate fine lines by relaxing key muscles. Treatment is safe, easy, and takes no time at all; in fact, one of the things our patients love is that they can book a treatment over their lunch break and head back to the office with no evidence they’ve been to see us.

Cost and Pricing

With how impressive the results can be, you might think that Botox® is an expensive treatment. It might surprise you to learn it’s not expensive at all! Each unit of Botox® solution costs $13.00. The number of units needed varies by treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will results last? When can I expect to see them?

Results can be as immediate as two days, but typically you can expect to see a marked improvement in fine lines and wrinkles 2 to 14 days after your treatment. The appearance of lines continues to improve for up to a month, and will typically last for approximately four months.

Are there any side effects?

While side effects are quite rare, they can occur. In our experience, we have yet to see any real issue with using Botox® Cosmetic, though clinical studies have reported cases of mild headaches, flu-like symptoms, and nausea in some cases. Brow Ptosis is much rarer, but can occur, and is easily treated with an antidote applied in the morning and evening.

Will the results look natural?

It depends on who is administering the injections. At PearlMedicaMD, we strive for natural-looking results. To put it simply, you won’t look like you’ve “had work done.” Muscle activity in targeted regions is simply reduced, without affecting your expressiveness or facial structure.

Is Botox® safe?

When administered by a trained and experienced injector, Botox® is absolutely safe. In fact, it’s got a long and well-established safety record. While most people think of it as a wrinkle treatment, Botox® also has an 18-year history as a medical treatment. It’s the most popular physician-administered cosmetic treatment in North America, with over 16 million treatments performed and a 97% satisfaction rating among users.

What’s the difference between Botox®, Xeomin®, and Dysport®? Are they fillers?

Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin® are not fillers. These products are neuromodulators that block nerve transmissions to muscles. When injected in the face, these products relax the muscles that cause the repeated movements responsible for wrinkles. All three are highly effective. At PearlMedicaMD, the way we see it is like comparing Coke and Pepsi: the products are similar, but everyone has a personal preference for the one they use.
